Title What are the predictors of advanced (multiple) cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in organ transplant recipients?
Keywords Skin cancer organ transplant
Researchers prof. dr. S.J.L. Bakker
dr. E. Racz
Nature of the research Retrospective cohort study
Fields of study dermatology epidemiology oncology
Background / introduction
Organ transplant recipients have a minimal 65x higher risk to develop cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. These tumors generally have a good prognosis and are easy to remove with little discomfort for the patients. Some patients, however, develop multiple and high risk tumors which can on the long term become a serious burden, and might lead by the development of distant metastases to the death of the patients.
Research question / problem definition
What are the predictors of the development of multiple/high risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma’s in organ transplant recipients?
Workplan
1. Extract additional data from PALGA to obtain complete information on skin cancer development amongst Transplantlines participants.
2. Construct database with skin cancer data.
3. Form hypotheses on possible relevant predictors (dialysis duration, data on transplantation, donor match, comorbidity, medication, lifestyle, frailty)
4. Check hypothesis by performing Cox regression analysis
