Background / introduction
Patellar and Achilles tendinopathy are overuse injuries of the tendon which are characterized by pain, disability, swelling and a chronic presentation. The pain occurs gradually, initially during or after exercise in combination with morning stiffness the next day. Later, when the pain increases, the pain can also be present in rest. Eventually the injury can be a reason for (elite-)athletes to end their sport carrier and can give limitations in daily life. In contrast to the clinical presentation, less is known about psychological factors in patellar and Achilles tendinopathy.
Research question / problem definition
The aim of this study is to understand the effect of tendinopathy on psychological factors by investigating the relation between psychological factors and clinical symptoms in patients with tendinopathy.
Workplan
Prospective cohort study at the tendinopathy clinic of the Sports Medicine Center UMCG.
