Fields of study:

Background / introduction
Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most current types of skin cancer in the Netherlands. Sun exposure and immunosuppression are major risk factors for the development of a squamous cell carcinoma. The large majority of the squamous cell carcinoma does not metastase and surgical excision is the treatment of choice. However a part of the tumors has a more aggressive course with local recurrence and nodal metastases, requiring more extensive diagnostics and treatment. Recently the Dutch guideline for squamous cell carcinoma is updated.
